I truly can’t believe this.It appears that NBC has finally come to its senses and demoted Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann. In fact, these two could be on their way out the door. WOW! For those of use who watch the media types as much as we watch the politics and politicians, this is HUGE news. Olbermann has been an embarrassment for years.
MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election. [...]
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.
The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.
“The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what’s supposed to be straight news programming,” said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin.
Readers are encouraged to review the entire piece, as it seems people chanting “NBC, NBC” on Wednesday when vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin referred to media bias during her speech at the Republican National Convention, as well as comments Olbermann made Thursday evening concerning a segment dealing with 9/11, were the straws that broke the camel’s back.
It goes without saying that this is indeed a happy day for the country and journalism. Now, MSNBC should do he right thing and cancel the disgraceful “Countdown.”
It really only seems a matter of time.
Maybe most delicious, wouldn’t it be fitting if Palin’s comments Wednesday, along with the attendees’ responses, drove the final nails into Matthews and Olbermann’s coffins?

Lol, glad I wasn’t the only one so excited about the news. I hope they enjoy being demoted. And, like you, I hope they quit for good.
Finally!.. I used to enjoy HardBall with Chris Matthews, but throughout Obama’s campaign he has literally been an Obama “athletic” supporter!… I had to wipe my TV screen repeatedly to remove the druel from Matthews mouth everytime Obama took the stage anywhere! Obama could do no wrong.. it is time they took him and the other idiot off and hauled him back stage along with the fake Greek Columns from Obama’s self proclaimed “you’ll see the light and tell yourself” to vote for Obama! No one in their right mind can really take Obama as a serious candidate after that proclamation, similar to Dean’s Hee Haw declaration! Thank you for sparing us the agony of even watching the event with Matthews on screen during this important national event. It would be a joke to even have him as a commentator.
O.K. Now bring back Tucker Carlson…admitt you were wrong to ever cancel his evenly balanced show. He will make you proud as he delivers news from both sides of the ticket and even in between!

Olbermann and Matthews are only being demoted for the debate coverage and election night results. Otherwise, their MSNBC shows continue, and their opportunities to offer commentary continue. Olbermann has found that left-wing counter-programming against Fox News Channel has improved MSNBC’s ratings, so I expect such programming will continue for this niche audience. I suppose NBC has come to grips with the fact that they’ll never dominate the ratings against the Fox and CNN lineups, so as long as their left-wing niche audience keeps them afloat, especially with ad revenue that meshes with the younger demographic of their audience, they’ll probably stay the course with their current bias. If one of these two had their program dumped, it would probably be Hardball with Chris Matthews. Maybe the NBC family thinks MSNBC’s left-ward tilt is offset by CNBC.
Standby…the ratings punishment is not yet in. MSNBC lost all credibility and will likely see diminishing ratings between now and the election. Olbermann and Matthews better start looking for new jobs!!

I am so proud of msnbc for finally seeing olbermann and matthews as who they are. These two are so in awe of obama they have made a mockery of reporting about the election. Thank God they are out, now please do something about morning Joe.He is another one who is so inept at his job while his little blonde looks at him in awe, sick sick. I used to always watch msnbc no longer its fox for me.
I am not a person who typically comments in public places but I have been very disappointed in the recent political news coverage by Chris Mathews. I used to enjoy watching Chris. Even though I am a moderate republican and I realized in the past several years that he is a democrat with liberal leanings, I used to respect his coverage and felt that he made an attempt to be civil and to present both points of view fairly. It has become more and more apparent that he has become a biased cheerleader for Obama with an inability to present a fair appraisal of both candidates. I am sorry for what he has allowed himself to become. I now watch CNN most of the time which I never watched in the past. It is amazing that they have become the less biased of the stations. I never bother with Olbermann, Maddow, Hannity, or O”reilly. They are all small minded and nasty individuals that lack the ability to be fair or civil. It is simply boring and a waste of time to listen to their vitriol. They provide no useful information or balanced point of view. I do check Matthews occasionally to see if he has regained his self-respect. I have found the least biased and most able to present a fair appraisal of events are Brit Hume, David Gregory, Morning Joe, and Carl Cameron.
