Olbermann’s Meltdown

Keith Olbermann keeps trying to make the daily meltdown pay off in the ratings. It isn’t working. HOWEVER, tonight’s meltdown over this item in the New York Post was hilarious. Olbermann’s unrelenting and uncontrolled outrage was among the worst of his on-air displays. Take a look at the Olbermann Watch: They keep a daily of log of Olbermann’s idiocy.

At Powerline they have a great piece, Keith Olbermann, Liar. You can also follow this link to see Chris Matthews embarrass himself on the night that Tim Russert died. More coverage of Olbermann’s meltdown.

Here’s the meltdown for your personal viewing.

Rush is Right

Rush Limbaugh continues to fight the good fight each and every day with his still cutting edge analysis and original conservative thought. Rush spent just a little time the other day addressing the fact that the media is paying very little attention to the flooding across the Midwest. While the democrat party and the mainstream continue to bash George Bush over Katrina, they are ignoring the current crisis. Of course, the story-line is not convenient for the media types. Rush explains it better than anyone…

Yeah, far more than that.  Look, I’m glad you raised a point out there, Nancy, about the tragedy.  What happened in Katrina with the human tragedy is no less important than what happened here in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and so forth.  We’re talking about media coverage. We’re talking about the Democrat Party.  We are talking about the mind-set of the left in this country, and it was on full display in the post-Katrina aftermath.  You can even say, “Hey, look there was devastation over Mississippi, but we didn’t see Shepard Smith or Geraldo or anybody else — Anderson Cooper, all these people that won their little Pulitzers or whatever they get. We didn’t see ‘em spending any time over in Mississippi, either,” and we all know why.  We all know why.  This was an excellent opportunity to bash Republicans and conservatives under the time-honored and old-hat cliche that they are racists and that they are sexists and that they are bigots and that they are homophobes, and when a flood happens to minorities, “Republicans don’t care. Bush doesn’t care.  I mean, Bush might have even steered the hurricane right in there! Bush wanted half the residents of New Orleans to leave so that the Republicans could win the state in future elections,” da-da-da-da-da. It went on and on and on.  I reached my boiling point listening to Algore bring this up, especially now with what’s going on in the heartland of the country.

The Murtha of all Morons Strikes Again

WOW! Michelle Malkin hits one out of the park today.

June 18, 2008 — YET another US Marine, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, had charges dropped Tuesday in the so-called Haditha massacre – bringing the total number of Marines who’ve been cleared or won case dismissals in the Iraq war incident to seven. In Chessani’s case, the military judge found that Gen. James Mattis had succumbed to impermissible outside meddling in bringing charges.

Bottom line: Zero for seven for military prosecutors, with one trial left to go.

But you won’t see that headline in the same Armageddon-sized font The New York Times used repeatedly when the story first broke.

Read the whole column-it’s worth it.

2008 Tony Awards

I usually agree with Michael Riedel. However, his coverage of the Tony Awards in the New York Post on Monday misses the mark by a country mile. The Tony telecast was one of the best in the last ten years. There were lots of performances, genuine excitement, and some thrilling performances that made us feel like we were right there at Radio City Music Hall viewing a live performance (In the Heights, Patti LuPone, South Pacific, and RENT). Read Riedel’s comments and let me know your thoughts.

June 16, 2008 — JUST when you thought Broadway was starting to get with it, the feeble-minded old Tony voters served up their usual dish – sentimental slop.Yes, “In the Heights,” which pulled off an upset to win Best Musical, is energetic. Yes, it has an appealing Latino cast. And, yes, it’s set in the barrio, a neighborhood most Tony voters only pass through on their way home from their country houses in Katonah. But the barrio of “In the Heights” is about as zesty as an enchilada from Taco Bell.

This is a hopelessly old-fashioned show that, for all its hyperactive staging, makes the groundbreaking observation that “there’s no place like home.” Read more »

The Media’s Self Infatuation

There was definitely some over-kill on the coverage of Tim Russert’s death. Some even used it to bash the Bush administration. Well it isn’t the first time that Chris Matthews has embarrassed himself. Matthews even used Walter Mondale as a source.

It will be interesting to see where NBC and MSNBC go with the Russert story next. Meet the Press was wonderful on Sunday, and very well done. Check out the Meet the Press home page if you have not yet seen it. There are lots of great pictures and video.

Pre-Tony Awards 2008

The 2008 Tony Awards will be held on Sunday, June 15. As usual, the New York Press is a-twitter. It is a year for stunning Broadway revivals, and a very interesting race between In the Heights and Passing Strange for best musical.

The broadcast is set to begin at 8pm. on CBS. Check out the Tony Awards home page-it’s full of interesting video and information.

Michael Riedel has an authoritative view.

Gypsy was divine and South Pacific is a production for the ages. I would also love to see August: Osage County. I’m sure it is marvelous. We’ll have more thoughts on Monday after the telecast.

Tribute to Tim Russert 1950-2008

Tim Russert is truly a giant of twenty-first century journalism. In the words of Rush Limbaugh, Tim was the closest thing to objective in today’s mainstream media. I watched Meet the Press about forty Sundays a year. It was almost always great television and made news. Tim Russert was respected by conservatives and liberals. Statements have poured in from across the world.

Hot Air has a complete round -up. Gateway Pundit has more.  Here are some thoughts I had in August, 2007.

You might want to watch the bone-chilling announcement from Tom Brokaw.
