The End of Institutionalized Racism

If they are to be believed, it seems that the University of Michigan has decided against violating the Michigan Constitution. The institutionalized racism codified during the 1960’s revolution against fairness and equity has finally run its’ course, even in the liberal state of Michigan.

From the New York Sun:

DETROIT — The University of Michigan announced yesterday that it will comply with a new voter-approved ban on affirmative action and immediately stop considering race and gender in admissions.

The move came in the middle of the admissions process for next fall’s freshman class. The university has already begun sending out acceptance and rejection letters.

The state constitutional amendment approved by the voters in November bans the use of race and gender preferences in public university admissions and government hiring and contracting.

After it passed, the university put its admission process on hold and asked the courts that it be given until this summer to comply with the ban, saying it would be too disruptive to change its policies now. But a federal appeals court said no.

“We cannot sustain any further delay in our admissions process without harming our ability to enroll a class of students for the 2007–08 academic year,” Teresa Sullivan, executive vice president of academic affairs.

The university will continue its legal challenge of the measure in the meantime, Ms. Sullivan said.

“This is a big step forward, there’s no doubt about it. It’s good news,” said Terence Pell, president of the Center for Individual Rights, a group that sued to force immediate compliance with the ban. “It’s a watershed moment.”

The university said it would use other criteria that are not explicitly race- or gender-based to achieve diversity.

It seems unlikely to me that the Univeristy of Michigan will be able to redefine diversity to match the law. Institutionalized racism may continue. We certainly hope not. the liberal’s limted definition of diversity does not drive one’s ability to learn.

Blogburst for Condi

At Thespis Journal, we are promoting blogburst demanding a retraction from Senator Boxer and in support of Condoleeza Rice. Barbara Boxer has engaged in this type of ridiculous behavior before, and it is time for principled conservatives to stand up for American and to stand up for Dr. Rice. Here’s a morning round-up of the latest from around the internet.

The New York Post has a detailed article complete with Secretary Rice’s response

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday challenged Sen. Barbara Boxer’s claim that she can’t make effective decisions about sending U.S. troops to war because she’s not a mother.

“I thought single women had come further than that,” Rice said. “The only question is, ‘Are you making good decisions because you have kids?’ ”

Boxer, in a venomous tirade during a tense Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Thursday, told Rice she couldn’t understand the “price” of war – a shot at the fact the nation’s top diplomat has never married and has no children.

“You’re not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family,” Boxer (D-Calif.) fumed.

Boxer’s comments stunned the committee room and one GOP staffer likened her to a “bad actor at a high-school play.”

The White House yesterday joined Rice in blasting back with both barrels.

President Bush’s spokesman Tony Snow slammed Boxer’s rant as an “outrage” and called it a “great leap backward for feminism.”

“Here you got a professional woman, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Barbara Boxer is sort of throwing little jabs because Condi doesn’t have children, as if that means that she doesn’t understand the concerns of parents,” Snow said.

“I don’t know if she was intentionally that tacky, but I do think it’s outrageous,” Snow told Fox News Channel.

Barbara Boxer: The Rosie O’Donnell of the U.S. Senate

The left-wing apologists are out in full force making excuses for the disgraceful liberal senator Barbara Boxer. The Daily Kos makes an convoluted and laughable defense of Senator Boxer. A quick glance at the Daily Kos reveals their hollow arguments.

“The mindlessness in this whole affair is by the right wing lunatics pretending that Boxer has somehow defamed Rice by stating the truth. Frankly, reading as the apologists of this administration prattle on about political self indulgence kicked in my involuntary gag reflex. Political self indulgence is personified by this administration and the former Republican rubberstamp Congress. We’ve seen unmatched political pettiness of spirit (the President actually said voting for Democrats means the terrorists win and America loses, how much pettier can you possible get?) from the very people this N.Y. rag carries water for on a daily basis. Their extremely loud and obnoxious proclamations regarding the mote in the eye of the Democrats would hold much more meaning if they had been 1/2 as vociferous regaring (sic) the board in the Republics (commonly referred to as Republicans) eye.”

“The fact remains. Boxer, Clinton, Rice, Bush, Cheney, Hastert, Rumsfeld and most, if not all of the rest of the gang who had so much to do with leading us into the quagmire of Iraq will not pay a personal price for their mistakes. If having this pointed out to them is so freaking hard on their poor little psyches, imagine how tough it would be for them if they found out a loved one were killed or maimed in the mistaken war they are responsible for starting. Having the truth pointed out to them is a very small measure of the anguish they are responsible for giving to thousands of American families.”

The leftists have become so arrogant and complacent that this very popular liberal blog allows such an easily shattered statement to be presented. Boxer did not defame Rice as much as she defamed herself. Boxer’s small mindedness in looking at national policy only through the eyes of a make-believe parent is not a philosophy of governing or protecting the security of the United States of America. No successful democracy in human history has permitted such over-emotional reactions to prevail in times of national crisis. Surely Senator Boxer realizes that the American military is an all volunteer force, and the vast majority of the service men and women are proud to sacrifice for their country. They made this choice as free and clear adults, and are tired of being verbally harassed by flaming liberals.

Boxer’s use of a piercing and dissonant debating technique is typical of the grand-standing we can expect from the refreshed liberal majority in congress. Boxer makes it appear that any citizen without children is unqualified to make judgments about our nation’s security. Boxer’s thoughts and words are absurd. While offering no plan for stability and security in the Middle East, Senator Boxer piously chastises the brilliant secretary Rice with appalling rhetoric and destructive invective.

The terrorists themselves, especially Al Qaeda, consider the democrat victory a victory for terrorism. This well documented point is ignored by The Daily Kos and all of the Washington DC liberals.

In the list of people responsible for the Iraq war, the Daily Kos fails to mention John Kerry, Hilary Clinton, John Edwards, and many other democrats who voted for the Way in Iraq. Everyone, even their beloved France, believed that WMD were in Iraq prior to the War.

Senator Boxer should apologize now. Like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, Senator Boxer has failed the basic test of leadership. These liberals have no plan for Iraq or the region. They are still acting like spoiled children who are enjoying their convoluted temper tantrum. In the words of President Bush, “And all involved have a responsibility to explain how the path they propose would be more likely to succeed.”

Step up Senator Boxer, stop acting like the Rosie O’Donnell of the United States Senate, and behave like a responsible leader.

Speaking of Rosie…

Taking time away from her campaign to insult every reasonable American she can think of, the ignominious Rosie O-Donnell has chosen to present the totally irresponsible and intellectually vacant words of Uncle Teddy Kennedy on her “r blog.”

Iraq is George Bush’s Vietnam, and we cannot allow history to repeat itself any longer. Our troops deserve better. We must act now.
Today, I introduced legislation to reclaim the people’s right to a full voice in the president’s plan to send more troops to Iraq. My bill will say that no additional troops can be sent and no additional dollars can be spent on such an escalation unless and until Congress approves the president’s plan.
Congress must exert its constitutional authority and demand a vote before any escalation in Iraq. In October 2002, Members of Congress authorized a war against the regime of Saddam Hussein, not to send our troops into a civil war. I voted against that resolution and feel an escalation of this war only compounds the original mistake of going in the first place.
A military escalation in Iraq would not strengthen our national security — instead it would further weaken it by enabling the Iraqis to avoid taking responsibility for their own future. More than 3000 American soldiers have died in Iraq and more than 22,000 have been wounded.
Instead of continued mistakes and shoot-from-the-hip policies, it’s time to get this right. The President must make clear the mission of our troops and lay out a path to bring them home, and Congress must stop being a rubberstamp for failed policies and stand up and act.
Never before has our system of checks and balances been so important.

Notice the total absence of any plan for the security of the region or the United States of America.
