Duplicity Defined: Barbara Walters

Update: yeah, Babs lied again. Hot air has more with a hilarious video.

Do you remember how Barbara lied to us about the dismissal of Star Jones…

Now she wants us to believe that she didn’t say anything negative about Rosie to her good friend of many years, Donald Trump. I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe her.

Rosie and Barbara are in a desperate attempt to promote The View. The public will tire of this trash, and The View will be relegated to the ash heep of TV history.

Theater Coverage in the New York Times

There are several multi-media events full of narration and colorful photographs on this page of the NY Times. Ben Brantley, chief theater critic narrates a slide show regarding Christine Ebersole’s performance in Grey Gardens. There is also a selection of photographs of shows that opened on Broadway in 2006. It’s all worth a look.Below are two photos from shows that opened in 2006 that represent the best of Broadway. The first is from the wonderful play “The Lieutenant of Inishmore.” The lower photo is of the great Broadway revival of “Faith Healer,” a stunning play which should have had a much longer Broadway run.

Michael Barone Hits The Nail

Michael Barone is in the top tier of of political columnists today. Barone writes with the clarion quality of a nightgale with perfect pitch. Today he sounded off on the Pelosi democrats and the stench that they have emitted over the Capital Building in Washington DC.

“I have been of the view that the Democratic Congress would not use its legislative powers to bar an increase in troop levels, for fear they would be seen as not supporting the troops already there and for fear they couldn’t get majorities on the floor, and I still think that’s unlikely. There’s a danger in being seen as promoting an American defeat. But the left wing of the Democratic Party will be calling loudly for defunding the war, and as we saw last week, in a jarring episode during the festivities, Cindy Sheehan can outshout the Democratic leadership.”

“I think we’re going to see a very loud and bitter clash, one that will contrast vividly with the graceful words of Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Boehner on opening day. One side wants American victory and success, though it cannot promise that they are certain. The other wants only exit, without regard to the consequences. The 110th Congress will be no more devoid of controversy and angry partisanship than the first.

Yes, Mr. Barone says it best when he says “The other wants only and exit without regard to the consequences.” Wow…that’s quite a statement about today’s democrats, and Barone is right. Read more »

In Tribute To Rosemary Clooney

The New York Sun has a wonderful article today on that great American popular singer, Rosemary Clooney. Clooney was singing well and performing almost until the time of her death. She is a legendary performer and was actively singing at a time when there were several uniquely American artists were promoted an American approach to popular song. I wish I could play a recording of her singing right now, and I may try. You’ll know I was successful if you are hearing her sing right now.

Rosemary Clooney began her career as a teenage bandsinger with hot looks and an even hotter sense of rhythm. By the time of her death 55 years later, she was acknowledged as one of the all-time great interpreters of the American popular song and regarded as an equal by such titans as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Tony Bennett. She was also the Earth Matriarch of the music, encouraging younger talents from an extended family that included her daughter-in-law, Debby Boone, as well as Michael Feinstein, Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli, Mary Cleere Haran, and other young performers who were only related to her by love.

Clooney’s (1928–2002) gifts were principally two-fold: She had a remarkable capacity for swinging, much more so than one would expect in a white pop singer from Cincinnati. At the same time, there was never any rhythmic ambiguity — you always knew exactly where the beat was. She was also one of the masters of musical storytelling, approaching each song as if it were a drama, whether it was as profound as Marc Blitzstein’s “I Wish It So” or as trivial and nonsensical as “Come On-A My House.” Even at the end of her life, when she had lost much of her wind power — through bad health partly caused by years of substance abuse and mental problems — Clooney, like Sinatra and Holiday, could still make you feel every last nuance of a lyric. It’s not for nothing that the 92nd St Y subtitled this weekend’s show “Her Way With Words.”46217_main_large1.jpg Read more »

Cindy Sheehan’s Insanity Tour

Cindy Sheehan was the star guest on the first telecast of Sean Hannity’s new show, Hannity’s America on the Fox News Network. Sheehan is the gift that keeps on giving. She now states that she is trying to “mature her advocacy” for the issues that she has deemed herself to be the spokesperson. As Ms. Underestimated says, “Cindy is still a loon.” Check out the video.

Don Surber has more. Barking Moonbat nominates Cindy for an award.

The Season of Broken Promises

These Pelosi Democrats are beoming the party of broken promises. Look at their record, and it is still the first week:

We will open up the house rules to protect the rights the minority: promise broken.

We will pass the 9-11 Commission recommendations in total: promise broken.

We will work a five day work week: promise broken.

We will work in a spirit of bi-partisanship: promise broken.

Today, the democrats shut down the house for the National Championshio football game.

Exactly when was the clock supposed to start ticking on those first one hundred hours of legislative action? Please speak in unison:

PROMISE BROKEN!
