Ratings Bomb: The CBS Evening News

Michael Amsterdam has the full story on Katie’s rating disaster. Maybe there is no appetite for nightly doses of liberal drivel.
Katie Couric Ratings Disaster

Katie Couric started off so well. Though she has said she hates it, she is often referred to as the perky Katie Couric and was the ratings queen in her first week hosting the CBS Evening News.

Now it appears the bottom has fallen out from under the perky one and she is headed for a ratings disaster.

Last week the former Today star’s broadcast averaged 7.04 million viewers, putting her in third place behind NBC’s Nightly News, with 8.56 million, and ABC’s World News, with 7.97 million, the Associated Press reports based on Nielsen Media Research.

CBS is spinning away trying to put a happy face on the five week slide. They are noting that the CBS Evening News is the only one of the three network newscasts to improve its viewership for the same week compared to a year ago. Last year, NBC edged CBS by 2.2 million.

  1. I like your new look.

While none of the anchors really send me over the top I’m partial to Shepherd Smith at FOX News

  2. Thespis, I’d rather not “troll” your journal, so I’ll ask just once, but are you simply ignoring me?

  3. Thanks for the comments.

No one is ignoring you, but are you starved for attention? After a lengthy exchange with you on another post, it seem liked wasted time to continue.

And Thespis NEVER lies, you can save that tired comment for one of your liberal friends.

  4. Thanks elementary history teacher!

I like Brit Hume, and Shepherd Smith also is excellent.

  5. No, the Ohio elections are in a few weeks, and you are a host of others are misinforming your readers on a host of issues. My point was simply that you ignored my questions and points.

You never lie, but you delete my link to the thread?

If what you’re saying is all accurate and fair, why so much deception? Let them read it!

ps You might want to investigate CBS’s conservative guests, conservative slants, and Katie Couric’s horribly embarassing interviews with conservatives (“ha ha, Condie, so how do people ask a secretary out?”) before you label the show “liberal drivel.”

  6. There is no misinforming here. Like many liberal fanatics, you live in Rosie’s alternative reality.

Shame on you and Sherrod Brown for siding with Al Qaeda.

CBS NEWS has a conservative slant? From what alternative reality did that morsel drop, Nutty Ned’s playhouse in the park?

  7. [...] Sonar stats reveal that the amount of blogs on Katie Couric has, predictably, diminished since her September debut. The positive tone of the posts have all but disappeared too. You might surmise that she’s really shaking things up — the volume of negative posts hasn’t increased, either. One blogger posts the ratings from the Drudge Report and discusses what he thinks is the overall problem: Network news, not the anchor herself. Several bloggers note that the news is too liberal, when they believe networks should be neutral. [...]

  8. I really dislike KC…she just rubs me the wrong way and is so impersonal, snotty and out of touch. I will always turn the channel if she is on it.
