Sherrod Brown: Ohio’s Nutty Ned

It seems that election fever has not been contagious in Ohio, at least not yet this season. Acrimonious and discordant debate among Senator Mike Dewine and Representative Sherrod Brown appears to have done very little to arouse interest in this hotly contested and nationally significant race among average voters. In addition, it appears that the strategy of running up huge vote totals in heavily republican counties for Senator Dewine does not seem to be in place. While Ned Lamont steals the headlines and is exposed weekly for his leftist, socialist, Marxist ideals, Sherrod Brown is virtually escaping any responsibility for voting in the minority of his party much of the time. A few diligent bloggers are trying to let Ohioans know the baggage that comes with Sherrod Brown.Bluntly, Sherrod Brown is a nightmare for Ohio voters, and is nothing more than a replica of Nutty Ned Lamont.

Large Bill left this succinct and pity comment the other day at Thespis Journal: “The funny thing about this race is the fact that Brown’s only chance of winning is if the electorate doesn’t get to know him by Election Day. I’m sure there are many good folks who have various reasons not to be motivated to take the time to vote for DeWine. However, if they get to know Brown they will understand the need to vote. A vote for Brown (or not voting at all) is not just a vote for one goofy leftist it is also a vote for Harry Reid to be majority leader. A vote for Brown would be another vote against conservative judges. A vote for Brown is a vote for capitulation in the war on terror.”

Sherrod Brown is unabashedly liberal and anti- free trade. He has written a foolish book about the ills of free trade a view which places him to the left of Bill Clinton and most of his party.

Brown and Lamont are against the Patriot Act, have called for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq (Brown spoke adamantly for troop withdrawal by October 2006), are against the Bush tax cuts, has opposed every national security initiative of the Bush Administration, and uses his “national security issues” page to blast Mike Dewine. Congressman Brown seems to following orders from “General Chuckie Schumer” and providing no ideas or realistic solutions of his own. He seems to think that it is better to spend all of his time whining about Bush and Dewine. It would terribly sad for Ohio voters to elect a person who is intellectually vacant and politically dishonest.

In point of fact, Sherrod Brown sounds like acerbic overtones from Cindy Sheehan’s treasonous blast when he says on his web site: “From the beginning, I have been an outspoken critic of the Iraq War. The way President Bush misled our country into war was a disgrace to our democracy. Thousands of American soldiers have lost their lives and tens of thousands more have been seriously injured and suffered psychological trauma.”

Congressman Brown continually recites the treatise of Moveon. Org when he states on his website, “Congressman Sherrod Brown of Ohio said the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq has made the country “a training ground for terrorists and a recruiting tool for the leaders of al-Qaida.” He said the war on terror should be redirected to end what he calls the “open-ended commitment in Iraq” and refocus military efforts on destroying al-Qaida.”

Trying desperately to paint Brown as a progressive (no liberal wants to be known as a liberal because those who are exposed as true liberals rarely win in Ohio) this article reveals a true side of Brown as a Ned Lamont Harry Reid bleeding heart liberal.

“There are two small but revealing items affixed to Ohio’s 13th District congressman Sherrod Brown. On his lapel, he wears not an American flag, but a pin of a yellow bird in a cage. On a Thursday morning in October, as we leave his office to walk to the Capitol for a committee meeting, Brown hands me a bookmark-sized slip of paper that explains: “The canary represents the struggle for economic and social justice.” It recounts how miners once took canaries into the mines so that when the birds died, they knew the air was too toxic to breathe. “Miners were forced to provide for their own protection. No mine safety laws. No trade unions able to help. No real support from their government. … It has been a 100-year battle between the privileged and the rest of us.”

The conservative discontent with Senator Dewine is understandable. However, voting for Ohio’s Ned Lamont, Sherrod Brown, is a vote for higher taxes, a vote to abandon the war on terror, a vote to further the most liberal, socialist causes in our nation.

It is interesting to note that while all of the teacher unions are backing Brown very strongly, he is not featuring their issues in any prominent campaign ads or literature. We wonder how important public education is to Ned Lamont or Sherrod Brown. They are both too busy fighting America’s real enemy, George W. Bush.
